Writing a profile that sounds like you
Your profile is the first thing a match sees. A few honest, specific lines do more than a long list.
In short
- Use recent photos in which you are clearly visible.
- Be specific about what you enjoy.
- Say plainly what you are looking for.
- Read it aloud before you save it.
Choose photos that show you now
Recent, clear photos build trust faster than polished ones. Show your face in good light in at least one, and add another that shows something you enjoy. Avoid photos that are years old, because the person who arrives at the first date should be the person in the photo.
Say something specific
Specific details give other people something to reply to. The interests you choose when you join, such as cruises, documentaries or long conversations, are a good place to start. Add a line about what you actually do with them, and let the detail do the work.
Say what you are looking for
A sentence about what you want saves time for everyone. Whether you are after a long-term partner, companionship or friendship first, say so kindly and plainly.
Read it aloud
If it does not sound like you, change it. Check the spelling, keep it positive, and leave out anything you would not say to someone on a first date. Then ask a friend to read it before you save it.
